I don't love the Saturn pad for fighters. It's good, but a little large for my taste. My favorite of all time is still the Dreamcast one. It's tiny but accurate. I feel like I can almost spam qcb-hcf and double half circles on it better than anything else.

Unironically it's the Dreamcast one. It's tiny yet accurate. I can pull off moves on it easier than any other controller I've ever used.

The Dreamcast pad is unironically my favorite d-pad of all time and it's size is definitely a part of that. For me it's that it's tiny so everything seem to come out faster on it. I liked it so much in the early days I made a Frankenstein 360 controller once with a DC pad in place of the stock one. It was surprisingly decent.

So yes, size and shape totally makes a difference. Experiment till you find what's best for you. Some people love the Playstation type pad, I think it's the worst. We're all a bit different.

People think I'm crazy, but I can do better and faster fighting motions like dp, qcf-hcb and 36 motions way easier on the tiny Dreamcast pad than any other or stick I've ever used.

Yes I have. '98 and 2002 are my favorite KoF's. I've played hundreds of hours of 2002 over the years and Kim is one of my KoF go-to characters and I never had troubles.

I should note, I find the pad/controller/stick you're using makes a massive difference. If you're playing say, the PS2 version and trying to do it on a sony pad, that may be part of your troubles.

Everyone is different though, I unironically love the Dreamcast one and find it's tiny pad near perfect for doing motions. But I've heard other people say it's one of the worst, while saying they like the Sony ones... so point being we're all different and it's worth trying things and seeing what works for you.

I don't know about those, but I love the Dreamcast pad for fighting games. Maybe it's because it's so small, but something about it works really well for me.

I removed the standard D-pad on a 360 controller and basically glued a Dreamcast one in it's place. It didn't work quite as well, but was a heck of a lot better than the default until I got around to buying a proper one.
