Tbh coins in that game were quite useless, there was nothing interesting you could buy besides armor. So wasting 100 coins for saving wasn't really big deal, also price doesn't increase.

It's quite different compared to original game, less arcade and more combat, maybe you like it more or maybe less. I think it's worth to give a try.
A shame the sequel ended in a cliffhanger and left the series with more questions than answers. I'm still mad
