6. Blackmail
>Decent.
7. Shipping and Receiving
8. Running Interference

Just finished this bad boy and holy shit what a ride that was despite the fact that GOG version apparently doesn't have ending cutscene and I had to watch it on YT. Seriously fuck those fags.
I now understand why people think it's better than first Thief. The story is more interesting. As opposed to first Thief, there are no absolutely terrible missions. We get two missions set in the streets of the City and it's a pretty big map, unlike the one in first Thief. There is also a lot more lore (but I had an impression that while first Thief focused more on the lore of the City, Thief 2 focused on the lore of its inhabitants). There are far more fun conversations to overhear. Cutscenes are still great. The tension in the plot is much better, in first Thief I was kinda just doing missions not caring much about the plot, while in Metal Age the story got me hooked from the very beginning.

>Thief Thread

I just got VR recently, and seeing as it's a matter of time before a VR Thief-inspired game comes out (Unknightly is obviously inspired but doesn't have the resources to pull off a full length campaign, and that Korean thief game ended up being a short walking sim), I've been thinking about ways to integrate its mechanics into VR. Being an immersive sim, most of them would actually translate pretty literally and quite well. Lockpicking, picking up loot, shooting a bow. Thing is, I can't quite reach a satisfactory conclusion as to how to implement the light gem. Easy answer is the shitty vignette fog from Thi4f since lots of VR games include those for comfort reasons anyway, but for a real answer the best I can think of is some kind of ring. But then that looks gay as hell and it doesn't make sense to wear a reflective ass ring as a thief when your player character would probably be able to tell if he's visible or not- the gem is really just for the player's benefit in the first place.
I dunno. Maybe a non-gay emerald ring design for a thief exists.

Thief thread
Started replaying Thief 2 yesterday night, currently at Shipping Receiving. Let's talk about this great game series.
Which game is your favourite and why?
I'm also interested in which game has the better atmosphere in your opinion? I love the dark surreal atmosphere of the original but also enjoy the much more down to earth, still slightly horror orientated atmosphere of the second.

Where else could one discuss Thief? TTLG moves even slower than /vr/.

Pic related for stealth, and that includes non-retro games too.

I got Thief II working, but why does it run in 16:9 dimensions? Shouldn't it be 4:3?

What games would you consider the closest to being holistically good?

What I mean by this is, every aspect of the game is designed to benefit the experience as a whole. The mechanics, the story, the level design, graphics and music all work together to provide a fantastic, balanced experience.

Holistically good games in my opinion:
Thief 1+2 (if it weren't for the out of place levels)
Age of Empires 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Non retro choices:
KotOR
Bioshock 2
Demon's souls

Think I'm a fucking pleb? Let me know and give me your opinions.

It isn't a traditional RPG but the Thief series borrows heavily from role-playing games, particularity tabletop ones. Being an immersive sim, the games actually have more in common with Deus Ex and System Shock then Metal Gear Solid. The games are a blend of dark fantasy, Medieval Europe and steampunk. Particularly the second stands out with its Victorian feel and steam powered mechs.

Yeah yeah, it's 2000, but it's early 2000.
Let's have a thread to admire this game.
I must say, the gameplay in this one is amazing, and the story just as immersive. I absolutely loved the plot, and the stuff with the masked servants still keeps me wondering to this day. It does a lot more for me than stuff like Bioshock's "She's your daughter but the bad guy's you from an alternate universe so you need to die also lighthouses and constants".
