Just beat System Shock 1 for the first time ever, using the Enhanced Edition mouselook first time I tried it in DOSBOX I gave up because of the controls. It's one of the most well-paced shooters I've ever played, with amazing level design, an entire ecosystem of weapons and tools to play with, and a story that's basic yet remains pertinent throughout (though cyberspace sort of sucked).

Moving on to the sequel now; unlike SS1, which was an RPG more in the vein of a tabletop game with the stats removed (ie an immersive sim), SS2 has more traditional RPG stats and builds. I'm worried I'm going to fuck up my game by building the wrong way: are there any tips I should know before going in?

Also, should I play my first playthough with the SCP mod installed? I like the look of SHTUP, but as for the rest I only saw something about SCP as a necessary set of bugfixes.

>loading a save replaces your autosave
>for some reason my last save has 20 less cybernetic modules than my autosave despite the fact they were like ostensibly 5 seconds apart
>no fucking clue where i got those modules from

fuck this fuckin piece of shit game

but also i love it

This just got a brand new patch on Steam (and I assume GOG).

My question - do new (official) patches render a game no longer 'retro'? Does it not indicate active dev even if it was once dormant?

Hey /vr/ could you recommend me some retro sci-fi games? Anything goes as long as it has fun gameplay. Thanks!

Before I knew where everything was

Before I knew where to find the unbreakable / upgraded versions of weapons

Before I stopped being afraid of movies and video games.

I want to play System Shock 2 and Deus Ex, but they are reallty old games and I heard by many people that some of the mecanics and the systems really suffer due to their age and I also heard about many different projects about remastering/remaking/updarting the games through mods por whole new releases
What do you guys think people should play?
remember that jjust because it was made that way desn0t mean it's perfect that way, outdated graphics and disfuncional controls are a con and you can't expect people to jsut suck it pu for some game
For one I tried playing RE4 HD on my PC a week ago and the tank controls were so awkward that i just dropped it
Basically tl;dr is i wanna play System Shock 2 which mods/versions do you suggest and general coversion/modernizations of classic games
