Sega was literally simultaneously releasing their games on the Dreamcast, competing consoles, and even Windows.

Probably wasn't the best idea if they really wanted the Dreamcast to succeed desu.

I think MUDs win the award for the saddest fate of all retro game genres.

Why are they called the "rebel alliance"? They're not independent factions allied for a common goal, they're all members of the old republic who want to return back to the way things used to be. If anything, they should be called the conservatives.

Some of my best memories come from an obscure MUD I played in the mid 90s on a server with maybe 20 active users that I doubt I put more than 50 hours in to.

lol I bought that game for the PS2 back around when it released and it's still sitting on my backlog shelf unopened in the shrink wrap...

imagine if you bought a movie and you watched half of it and then the screen blacks out and you get a message saying your not good enough to see the rest

you wouldn't tolerate that, right?

so why would you tolerate it in a game?

came back a decade later and forced myself through it before getting bored about halfway through the 3rd game

I've stopped playing video games. When I was a kid, I would read about games in Nintendo Power and they'd seem amazing. Once emulation became a thing I'd go and play those games I fantasized about as a kid only to be disillusioned.

It's better for the game to remain unplayed and magical in my heart than to face the reality that they're mediocre shovelware.
