Because the SPAS12, while an extremely cool looking shotgun, is in all kinds of movies and games, while the original shotgun, a Winchester 1300 Defender, is not seen that often, particularly not with the custom front grip and heat shield. The shotgun in DN64 is also a so-so 3D render, while the shotgun in DN3D is a real gun digitized for the game.

It has a lot more character to me.

I think that's what makes it good, it lets it have longer range, which makes it more suitable for fighting Duke's more robust canon fodder.
Some day I'll have a Winchester just like Duke's.

The shotgun in Duke Nukem 3D was an actual Winchester 1300 'Defender' shotgun.
George Broussard bought it secondhand from the Texas Department Of Corrections. After some initial graphics made with it, it was decided it didn't look impressive enough, so he bought a Tac-Star vertical pump-grip and heat-shield to put on it, to make it look more interesting and distinct, and this is what was used for the game (with Duke's radiation sign emblem drawn onto it).
He still has this gun, cheap Tac-Star parts and all.

Rise Of The Triad had a number of the devs get in costume to be digitized as enemies, Tom Hall, who lead the development of the project, got into costume and makeup as El Oscuro, the final boss, Joe Siegler played Sebastian Krist, riding in a weaponized chair, using a pair of staplers as steering sticks (almost stapling his hands once). Tom and Joe also voiced their characters.
They also hired Gregor Punchatz to make a steel model of SPRAY, the missile spamming robot boss, as well as the gun turrets.
Lee Jackson composed most of the music (with Bobby Prince, who did Wolfenstein and Doom's music, providing a few tracks), and he would also get into costume and play one of the monk enemies.

Some quick pointers:
>you will always hear their WOOOOP when sighting in on you, they may do this repeatedly
>you will constantly hear the humm of their engine when they're nearby (as they're active, that is)
>if you have stereo sound, you should be able to at least passably judge their distance and angle to you due to their sounds
>combine this with RUNNING! and STRAFING!, and making sure to not turn your back on them if you can, keeping them in sight as much as you can, even if that means RUNNING! backwards
>if you can, don't use the RPG, Devastator or Freezegun on them, because they tend to dart side to side to avoid midair projectiles
>the Shrinker is obviously a no-go
>hitscan weapons work far better, in my opinion the Shotgun works the best, because it'll only take a few shells, and also it groups pretty respectably even at a distance (like a good shotgun should)
>so running backwards/circlestrafing them, while pounding shells on them, should work, even if they're in groups
Once you build these neural pathways in your head, you should eventually be able to do this even when other enemies are engaging you, and I say this as someone who isn't actually particularly skilled at Duke Nukem 3D.

>Weapons like the shrinker and freeze gun are not effective to use
The shrinker is useful as fuck, one ray on a fat commander and he's ready to be pulp under your boot, it's near instakill, I fucking love the shrinker.

The freezer is a bit trickier to use but it can deflect and bounce around corners, the trick is to not use it against enemies who shoot at you with guns.

I found the freezer was great against the Alien Protector Drones, since they're immune to the shrinker, and you'll just blast them until they stop moving, swap to the pistol and BANG they're scattered all over.

>The build engine is about as stable as a house of cards causing all sorts of nonsense
I'll give you that, it's held together with chewed gum, but that doesn't matter as much because the style and gameplay is so good.

>Lunar Apocalypse is boring and quite a few levels from other chapters are dull as well.
I like a lot of Lunar Apocalypse, the worst levels are in The Birth, but even then, The Birth has a few of the best levels in the game.

Duke It Out in D.C was way more dull than any of the original episodes, and only Nuclear Winter was outright awful.

Actually, CoD wouldn't do a vertical pump-grip on a shotgun like in Duke Nukem 3D, because it looks too old fashioned, not modern tactical, if they were going to have a vertical grip for a pump, it would be a chunky-ass RIS with a VFG made for an AR-15, because lord knows a tactical feature can't be ergonomically or aesthetically streamlined if it's going into CoD, gotta have all those rails, even though they're not being used for anything!

Pic related is the actual shotgun they used for Duke Nukem 3D, it's a Winchester 1300 'Defender' model, fitted with a VFG and heatshield from TacStar, this is a very 1980's/1990's way to kit out a shotgun. If I were gonna use one of these, the only things I'd change would be to add a stock, or to add a laser for point-shooting.

The shotgun they used for Duke Nukem 64 is a Franchi SPAS-12, widely known for looking cool as shit, so it's not a huge surprise that it's a weapon put in a Duke Nukem game.
Personally, I think it's kind of overused, and it's honestly not a very good shotgun, I'd much rather use the Winchester.

One of the top 10 FPS games ever

>level
Hard one. I really like Derelict a lot, but there's so many other great ones.

>weapon
Either the cool ass Winchester shotgun (pic related, the actual one), or the Shrinker, I like it because a big bad mama jama like a commander can come, whereupon you can give him a ray and then crush him under your boot. There's something so immensely satisfying to trivialize what's supposed to be a threatening foe. I always save some charges for the fatasses

I also love the Microwave Ray, but it falls short because you only find it and the batteries in a few places in Episode 4, and you'd think it'd be great to have against the new Protector Drones because those assholes are dangerous, but you gotta score numerous hits for them to start swelling and blowing up, and they're fast, dangerous bastards, I rarely manage to successfully microwave those suckers, and it's not rare for them to come in pairs, in which case you GOTTA change your strategy.
It's a fun weapon, and it does a lor of damage even if you don't explode anyone with it, but you don't get to have very much fun with it.

>quote
"Die, you son of a bitch!"
(it's the tone that makes it)

>least favourite enemy
I want to say the protector drones, they're almost the Arch-Vile of this game, but I honestly kind of like the element of challenge they add.

>Or just anything in general about the game and it's expansions.
Duke Caribbean: Life's A Beach, is one of the best expansion packs ever made (for any game), and you MUST play it.
It's funny, it's upbeat, it's comfy, it's charming, it's creative, and the maps are actually really good, they play very well.

Duke It Out In D.C is just ok.

Nuclear Winter is hot garbage. I was afraid it was just gonna be retooled and reskinned first episode maps, but it turned out to actually be a lot fucking worse than that and I wish they'd have just done what I first suggested for the duration of the episode. Yare yare.

/k/ here. For a while Remington imported Russian-made double-barreled shotguns from the Baikal factory, called the Spartan series.

>>2738965
Top ones are Remington 870s, bottom one is a Remington Spartan. Both excellent guns, but I don't recommend buying a new 870, since they're all shit now.

>>2739537
Lots of double-barrels got exposed hammers, but there's just a handful that are made today. Most don't have hammers.

Pic related to discussion, Duke Nukem's Winchester 1200.
