So people here always shitpost about the Speccy but not being a bong I've never actually experienced the library and I want to give the humble little micro a try. Anyone here has some recommendations? Again I'm really not familiar with the library so feel free to also recommend what would be considered "the obvious" too

I feel legitimately sorry for the "people" that didn't grow up with one of these.

ZX Spectrum is just a meme name for the 48k bundle. The original name was oi me Speccy System.

Does the spectrum have any worthwhile exclusives or is it just nostalgic for brits?

It is "ZED-EX Spectrum". "ZED-EX".

It doesn't matter if you don't say 'z' as 'zed', that's the right way to say the name. Get it right.

>Never THE computer
>Never drew a dime
>Heavy graphical constraints (two colors per each 32x24 grid leading to attribute clashes)
>Shit chiclet keyboard
>Shit RAM capacity even by 1982 standards
>Needed exploits and performance enhancements to make games work
>Later revisions with increased memory broke compatibility with older games and higher failure rates
>LAN system used by nobody, not even schools
>Software mostly stored on cassette tapes that can break easily and can be copied by literal whos having an audio equipment
>Microdrive used by nobody as it's too small and has even more brittle tapes
>Controllers can only emulate keyboard input
>Only one controller can be used for games, except for a limited number of ZX Interface 2 games
>Is the computer equivalent of that one insufferably mediocre middle manager whose sole professional """""""achievement"""""" is using the same shitty machine for over 30 years
>Spent the later life of the system's lifetime buried by superior computers and gaming systems
>The biggest impact it had on the business was millions and millions of shovelware that piggybacked titles originated on higher performance systems and having its legacy siphoned by a failure of an electric vehicle.

American here, I loved my NES growing up but the recent ZX Spectrum hype piqued my interest so I just had to try it out. Gotta say, I’m impressed! So many classic games and plenty of soul. Jet Set Willy and Technician Ted in particular stood out as soulful classics, I can definitely see how Nintendo would be influenced by these games for the Metroid series. I can’t help but feel a little bit darn tooting envious that we didn’t grow up with this wonderful computer in the US. In conclusion, try this little bad boy out if you’re curious and don’t let the negative voices put you off. Just my two cents.

Let’s talk about games, preferably obscure ones from consoles that are older than 6th gen.
