This. In 50 years all of the original cartridges will degrade or tarnish away to nothing and only the rom horders will be the only ones actually preserving these games for the future. It is simply more practical to transfer roms to a new storage device when the old one wears out than it is to keep a bunch of N64 or Game Boy carts and their button batteries operational. Its simple logistics.

I admire the passion of collectors of original hardware, but its a losing battle. Join rom gang.

This is why I use ZDoom, because development has stopped and I know what to expect from it. Its probably good that development has stopped too, because the author of ZDoom is trans now of course.
