There was a lot of aftermarket gadgets for the Gameboy because it was such an international megahit (+100 million units sold), some which made sense or tried to provide a worthwhile upgrade (such as lighting your screen), with various degrees of success.

There was an "arcade cradle" kind of thing, you'd jam your Gameboy in there, it had a magnifying lens for the screen, a fake arcade stick which would press on the DPad (didn't actually work that well), and had a big bank of batteries in the bottom to allow for longer play. You couldn't really see the screen that well with the magnifyer, but it would let the Gameboy put out stereo audio.

There was a lot retarded shit you could buy for the things.
