>i blame zoomers for this
they always use the fucking screens at maximum brightness

This is very true. My new-ish trophy wife is a zoomer and its unreal how she keeps the brightness on her phone set to maximum, even when she is in a dark room. I bought us each new iphones with OLED screens two years ago. I compared our phones current max brightness and now hers is much weaker than mine because she wasted her precious OLED lifespan. Nintendo is going to make a killing on replacements for burnt out OLED switche screens when zoomers crank up the brightness because they think OoT is too dark.

Well, to be fair, the N64 looks like hot shit at native res if you don't play on a CRT. A lot of people repeat the meme about retro games being intended for CRT displays (and yeah, they do look better there), but the N64 is the only console that 100% depends on how CRTs display 240p to make its visuals work.

Pic related is how Majora's Mask REALLY looks on real hardware. You think zoomers are gonna want to play this?

Not him, but he may either be asserting that N64 is best played on a blurry-ass TV with composite to mask to mask the low-res, low-poly graphics, or that cleaning up and/or upscaling the N64's native image only further exposes the VI filtering and anti-aliasing, which, let's face it, can look a blurry mess outside its intended target: the common CRT using composite.

I personally am not all that bothered by it, but it can catch you off-guard if you don't know what's going on. I couldn't believe pic related was what the N64 actually outputs when I first saw it - obviously not at that resolution, but the image itself is accurate to the N64. On a shitty old CRT, it's all smoothed out, but the exposed AA looks pretty bad at this level of sharpness.

If you’re going to post comparisons, you may as well show what the consoles actually looked like, not high res emulator screenshots. Personally I think the obsession with not-quite-ready 3D ruined the generation regardless of console.
