Recently purchased a gameboy and settled for getting Gargoyle's Quest w/man and Kirby's Dream Land instead of the game I wanted because it was being sold complete and the price was inflated accordingly; these are excellent tightly controlled platformers so settling is a relative term.

I always put off playing Dream Land because

which was the mechanic I got spoiled with playing Super Star as a kid. I was also aware of only getting 5 levels which meant it could be beaten in less than an hour and I like to sit down and get lost in a game when I can. But years later I can find time between work and other interests but it's marginalized so beating Dream Land sounded like some comfy gaming. Further I like Kirby so not having beaten his debut appearance was embarrassing.

After beating King Dedede using a continue and dying a couple more times learning his pattern and realizing you have to jump over him not float to keep up with his pace because I kind of suck, I think I spent 8 lives beating the game I sit back and bask in the pleasure of beating another game and thinking of how I could do it better next time.

Then Dreamland surprised me with the extra game unlock feature. How cute I thought to myself, maybe things will be a little faster, I'll check this out. Reboot the Gb and we're off. A little faster, new enemies. Not bad. Get to the first mid boss hurting a little bit but confident and settle into the routine, suck and blow, keep to the middle of the screen. Then like fucking lightning it rushes across the screen..

Yeah, I'm hardly the first just a fun story. But more to the point New Game+, what do you think? Lazy extra material or the challenge you never expected?

first mario brothers had better movimentation and jogability compared to the sequels
