>a company that makes consoles and consoles games doesn't understand the appeal of PC gaming elements
I mean if you watch the Rare replay videos, they were out of touch with the entire development. It may as well have bloomed on accident.

I fail to see what this has to do with anything though.
The game seems fine for what it is, with the potential to be better. I don't think is being flawed makes it inherently bad, it simply makes it not flawless.

I think the fact that it could be tuned into a K&M game without much work is a testament to the rest of the game's composition. Same is true for perfect dark and people have made mouse and keyboard mods for both.

Would it be better? Sure. Is it that way? It's not.
But what's the point in highlighting that?
I don't think any of this detracts from any other merits the game has.
And certainly the follow up improved on all those aspects as well. Again without having mouse and keyboard support.

Both games have several different control variants as well, long before any kind of standard. One of which is analogous to modern controllers with 2 sticks.

It comes off like some kind of nitpick. Like damn how could they not predict the future. Or, damn why couldn't they just convince Nintendo to make or change the hardware even more (after already convincing them to add 2 more controller ports for 4 player multiplayer)

>If you shoot at guys you don't know if you're hitting them
You can see the blood splatter effect from a mile away.
>except for the animation which takes time to play
The animation is instant, either they fall over dead or they do a little pain dance while stumbling.
>Goldeneye had this
I just played both games in 1964 emulator and neither has a sound effect for bullets impacting flesh. Both games have enemies grunting in pain.

+1 for default controls. I genuinely miss them for single player content at least. Well, it's this or a wiimote for me.

Goldeneye/PD should be considered a sub genre of the FPS.

The nice thing is that the mechanics and setting are fun regardless of difficulty.
>good levels
>interesting objectives
>fun gun modes
>Elvis
>shoot guns out of hands
the list continues.

>we will never get the perfect dark source code
>we will never have a true port with actual mouse and keyboard input rather than emulated joystick input and native networked multiplayer
It's the only thing I want before I die.
