you're saying this as if it's an advantage when encounters have no connection to level design. when scrags, gaunts and imps all occupy the same role with the same tactic.
and actually, in Quoth the lightning lags behind the player a bit, you can outrun it by circlestrafing. in practice this means a gaunt is a bit similar to Q2 railgunners: able to control bridges and such, unique threat in groups in the open.
