>All of that is entirely relative to your own modern perception
Sure, in the same way that we can look at the humble wooden chair, and then a herman miller aeron. Or a porcelain toilet, versus squatting over a dirt hole in the forest.
>You are the one choosing to arbitrarily judge the value of Syphon Filter relative to a completely different game.
You can't unring the bell. You may really enjoy shitting into that hole in the ground when that's all you have, but once you've sat on an ergonomic modern toilet and dropped the nigs off at the pool, you can't help but judge the value of the hole in the ground in direct comparison to the modern toilet.
>How about you try to evaluate the quality of a game based on it's own intrinsic strengths and the experience it provides
It's impossible for humans to evaluate any experience in a bubble. For example, a boomer playing Pacman as a child may be profoundly impacted by that experience, having never experienced anything like that before. Show that to 10 year old me in the late 90s, and it wouldn't even register as a blip on my radar. I was playing Fallout, Resident Evil 2, and Banjo Kazooie, fuck that old grandpa shit.
>I think people that say a game has 'aged' and therefore think it's not worth playing are just lazy and don't want to make any effort to enjoy something for what it is
I'd like to direct you to the humble ball in a cup. How much effort are you willing to put in, and how much return on investment do you expect to get back in the form of enjoyment?
