Well, do you or your wife have a laptop or tablet? If you do, then you're pretty much set to go, also, if you want your modern TV to look more like an old CRT, use shaders. If you have a laptop, you're going to need an HDMI cable, then just plug it in the TV and it should mirror the screen, as for the tablet, they often have screen mirroring for most modern smart TVs, wirelessly, so just use that.

Now, you've got your laptoo or tablet's screen in the TV, now what? Well, you can either get some standalone emulators, or just RetroArch if you'd like it all in one place, some ROMs, and set it up.

Alright, you're pretty much ready to play, now all you need is some USB or Bluetooth controllers, I think Bluetooth's best if you want to play on your couch comfortably with her. I think that's all to it.

Now that's genuinely incredible, almost makes me want to go and get a GameSir x2 for this, I wish it was the standard with these controllers, they mostly come with the cases separate, or in most cases don't even have one to buy, I went and improvised with mine, using a case from an old tablet I had that doesn't work anymore, it's not solid, nor a good it, but it kind of works...

Anyways, did you get the G8? Hope it turns out to be as good as you're expecting, everything I looked up about it certainly makes it feels like a true jump for the telescopic controller market.

I usually play them alone, and prefer it that way to be honest, but I'll sometimes play with my GF, she grew up with a Master System and SNES as a kid, loved them both, and has her favorites which I've managed to download and let her play again after all of these years, she was really happy too.

Bubble Bobble.
Super Bomberman.
Top Gear.

These are her favorites by far, and we eventually beat a few of them together, with Bomberman being a highlight since we got addicted to the whole series. I tried playing Bonanza Bros. with her, but it was after her house had been robbed and she got upset because it reminded her of it.

I have to be honest... most 90's and early 2000's handheld ports of console titles. We had a lot of exceptions, don't get me wrong, many handheld ports are classics that stand on their own... still, I feel that most are garbage, today and even back then when they came out. Still... I miss that era...
