I don't get the hate RetroArch often encounters here... I mean, it's a software with an idea, being this single solution for all of one's retro needs, I think it achieves that quite well, having cores of most emulators that are widely well received in every console, a bunch of settings you only have to set once and it can work for all ROMs of all of your different emulated consoles, customization is excellent and you can make everything how it feels ideal to you, quickly go from one console's ROM to another completely different library in seconds... if you don't like it, just don't use it...

I don't know if I'd consider myself a casual, though I'm not hardcore either, somewhere in the middle I suppose. I know that for most of what I play, I can beat it if I play it enough, even if it takes you back to the title screen, however it can take a lot of time and memorization, still I do it most of the time, but there are a few here and there where I just gave up because it was too unreasonable, so now if I see that what I'm playing has unlimited continues, it's an immediate plus in my book.

I don't get the appeal of focusing so much on numbers, to me it's all about the experience of playing most of all really, but to each their own I suppose, so here are my recommendations for you, OP...

1. QuackShot (Sega Genesis): It's not a complete piece of cake, but it's really enjoyable and well made, short and has unlimited continues, so as long as you keep going it should be a matter of time.

2. World Cup Italia '90 (Sega Genesis): I'm not sure if you're into football/soccer, but this is a simple one, a tournament of 7 matches, just spam diagnoal long balls and try to do a header or bicycle kick.

3. Sonic Chaos (Sega Master System/Sega Game Gear): I'd say this is the easiest 2D Sonic platformer ever made, just keep going to the right and you'll beat it, if you want 100% completion though...

4. Lucky Dime Caper & Deep Duck Trouble (Sega Master System/Sega Game Gear): A similar situation to QuackShot, they're both good, fun and short, with unlimited continues, just keep playing them.

5. World Cup Italia '90 (Sega Master System): Another 7 match tournament, just select a good team like Brazil, run up the pitch or do long passes, and score by passing it sideways near the box.

6. Donald Duck no Mahou no Boushi (SNES): A straightforward adventure even on the hardest difficulty setting, same situation as the previous Donald Duck titles I've mentioned, and a good time too.

7. Crash XS & Crash 2 (GBA): Lovely adaptations of Crash's PS1 gameplay into 2D, completing them 100% isn't so simple, but just getting to the end should give you much trouble at all, both are a good time.

I hope I was able to help out, OP. I'd say there are lots of titles you could try, but there's are just the ones that came up to my head for some reason, hope that you can beat them, but most of all, have fun doing it.

not sure what the appeal to this game is. looks like anything else people are pushing nowadays but very expensive and ultra pretentious.

Those ice levels in Evilternity were painful, that better not be what the rest of it feels like.
