Well it's more of a technical concept right now.
Here's what it looks like - just a field with remote areas representing individual levels - I would not call it a seamless open world.

There are some quests and NPC's, but they are experimental and scarce.
For example, you get a quest from marine in e1m1 to find another marine in e1m9 - and when you find this marine, he gives you a plasma rifle.
The idea is cool though
