As a sidenote I want to give the SNES Harvest Moon a go but can't think of name for the dog and the 4 character limit isn't exactly helping. Halp?

Harvest Moon series is a good example of boring mundane concept actually being a relaxing and entertaining one in a video game form. Also Harvest Moon/Rune Factory games are one of the rare examples of video game romances working well within the games featuring them.

As for my personal experience with the series I never got to play the original SNES game when it came out or the Game Boy ones but I did enjoyed and played Back to the Nature a lot back in day. For some reason I couldn't get into the PS2 and Gamecube ones released few years later but when I ended up buying NINTENDO SIXTY FOUR sometime in 2008 Harvest Moon 64 was one of the games that came with it that I played and enjoyed lot.

I guess the monotonous nature/concept of the games is also their only real weakness and by this I mean that I really can't see people playing through all the Harvest Moon games but only playing one or two of them, having a good time with them and not giving a fuck about the rest of them. At least this is how it was for me
