Tasteful is always subjective, someone will get really offended that some of the waifus are lolis, or that one of them is a horse, but basically it's just stock Doom gameplay except each level features sector art of the waifu in question.

Pic related is one example (and a work in progress). Anon's waifu is Maka Albarn from Soul Eater, and if you look at the level from above, or in the automap, or in an editor, it's got art which depicts the waifu.
