This fight triggered Nick Rox who was writing for Gamefan at the time because he couldn't beat him in the English version and had to go online asking for advice which caused literally everyone to call him a poser. It was good times in the early net.

All three of those terms were used extensively. What do you get out of trying to change a history you didn't even live?

You should try fighting the bosses without grinding at all. You might find them more beatable than you thought. You will sometimes get down to no MP and low on items by the end but they're all beatable.

I don't mind either of those things at all, and have mostly liked the work of both of them over the years. But /vr/ has some real hardcore bigot regulars so I'm surprised they don't get their panties in a twist over that game considering the things I see complained about here.

That said, I was pretty disappointed in the writing quality in it and quit mid way because the game itself was boring. Meh.

>Best gaming magazine was Gamefan.

This. Gamefan was the only magazine I bought on a regular basis. I still have most of my old ones and always have a couple in my bathroom for nostalgic reading while shitting.

>GameFan was fun, but a bit lacking in journalistic merit.

I've heard this sentiment around here a few times and it baffles me. Sure Gamefan could be biased, but all the gaming magazines were biased. They were all just giving their opinions on the games of the day. Gamefan just had a very japan-centric outlook. As someone who was a huge anime and Japanese gaming nerd back then it was perfect for me. Plus it had great layouts with tons of screenshots all over the place. It always made looking at the other gaming mags feel like they were wasting space. The paper stock was really good too. I keep old Gamefans in my bathroom for browsing and they still hold together.
