It's called "retrofetishism" and it is indeed weird. It gets absolutely bizarre when you realize that the vast majority of people participating in it aren't even old enough to have lived through the era they're obsessed with, so it's not even a nostalgia thing. They're literally the tech/gaming equivalent of every "born in le wrong generation" teenager you've seen make a comment on an YouTube music video about how [insert music predating their birth here] is so much better than whatever's out today.
