I thought PS1 discs worked in all PS3s, the only issue was specific to PS2 games. Which I think PS2 discs are natively supported on CECHA systems, emulation assisted on CECHB, and dropped on all slim models (but can play digital releases in its emulation wrapper). PS1 discs work in all from the fat to the slims.

I guess I was not too creative in my weapon use or exploits and preferred the Crissaegrims. Allows me to move and deal damage, lots of damage, some critical. I think it was the joy of pressing the button and not coming to a dead stop to attack. I'd almost call that weapon almost game ruining to easy like Orlandu in Tactics. Maybe the shield rod or other combinations, or that blood sword with lots of blood grinding can deal more damage at once, I cannot swap off of the Crissaegrims because it is uniquely fun to wield.

Your PS1 games will work in the PS3. Also lots of great classic games on PSN, some of which like Harmful Park which goes for hundreds are just $5 digitally.

I recommend picking up good games especially if they are cheap.

Also good news, you can opt to go with a PS2, since they play PS(1) games, plus the systems are pretty cheap and abundant (and there are lots of great PS2 titles as well).
