I have not tried, but my understanding is that saturn emuation has come a long way in the last handful of years. For a long time it didn't matter how powerful your computer was, Saturn hardware is just so weird that it was nigh impossible to emulate. But recently it seems strides have been made so it's likely even the computer you used before would handle it much better.

It's a weird system, not a lot of games but some of them are incredibly cool and you'll never play them anywhere else.

If you played Story of Thor (pal version) if possible play Beyond Oasis, the North American release. For some reason the pal version plays laggy by comparison. This is one of my favorite Genesis games but I often heard people saying they thought it was clunky to play which I never understood. But on one playthrough I decided to play a rom of Story of Thor just to see if anything was different (I'd played both hardware and rom of BO several times) and it felt like all the controls were off. So try that if so.

Also if you missed the 100 floor bonus dungeon, go for that next time. Tons of fun and gets you great items.

And finally I you can, play Legend of Oasis.

Legend of Oasis is beautiful and super fun. I shill it here from time to time but barely anyone else seems to have played it which is weird given how good it is. Low print run and bad emulation for years can do that.

Rayearth isn't as good but is also very worth playing.

Not him but I think he has it. Through 16 bit Sega had a more arcadey and overall older audience. Nintendo has always had kids in mind at the center of their design, the Saturn really didn't. It was also expensive and focused on 2D when everyone else was pushing 3D.

Don't take this as being from a Nintendo fan. I loved my Saturn to bits and still to this day have never felt even any interest in getting an N64, but it's not hard to see why it succeeded.

If casual gamers forget them I'm fine with that. It becomes a little like classic music mostly forgotten by the masses to me.

>It's admitted by even the most hardcore Sega fans that Panzer Dragoon was the only game in the entire Saturn library that might be worth a damn.

Whew what bait.

Story of Thor and Beyond Oasis are the same game except for the terrible PAL lag.

Legend is great too.

They both have some great games. In my experience if you want either then you'd want both. I don't honestly know which I'd pick if I had to.

Legend if Oasis is pretty great.

So is Astal and Clockwork Knight 2 and Rayearth. Nights is fun, if weird and Die Hard is a good time. I sure wish it got more games, but it's still a cool addition to the world of gaming.

Sega tended to be more action arcade oriented so it doesn't have close analogues to all of them. I like Legend of Oasis more than any Zelda game I've played, but I'm also not a huge Zelda fan.

Likewise there aren't a lot of strong RPGs (Rayearth is alright though badly translated) or anything that's really like MGS for example. But in my mind that's the strength of the system, it has very different games and I like variety.

Guardian Heroes
Astal
Dark Savior
Dragonforce
Gun Griffon
As well as heaps of fighters were all favorites back then. If I only had to pick either a Saturn or PS it probably would have been a hard choice though.

I only kept that CRT around to play Saturn games when emulation for it still sucked ass. That's why it's shoved in the corner if my storage room, I don't have either anymore.

That game is sadly very lackluster. Rayearth and Legend of Oasis are pretty great though. Oasis easily warrants a purchase in my books.

What sort of games do you like? Legend of Oasis is one of my favorites. Also still one of the best looking games ever.

Just started playing this again today. I had it like 10 years ago but forgot almost everything about it, and going back now reminds me of what makes it so great. Absolutely kicks the shit out of the average Zelda game and stuff like Alundra. I forgot how richly interactive and detailed the world was. So awesome.

Does it count if I still own my own consoles even if I pretty much always emulate these days outside if a few cases?

Sort of.
32X was indicitive of the business philosophy that killed Sega. It itself was just a step on a long ladder.
I'm still sad.

I'm glad there are people who appreciate it. To me a lot of 5th gen looked like a step down when they made things out of polygons. I also just love the overall aesthetic of this game though.
