If you want a shorter Sonic title, just play Sonic Chaos, if you don't go for 100% completion it's genuinely a 20min to 30min playthrough, and I know that by the end of it you'll either be quite happy, or you'll understand why Sonic 2's a bit longer. Sonic Chaos is fun, but shallow at times.

I see, I think the issue with how you worded the OP is that it sounds like you dislike Sonic overall and find the classic trilogy to be bad, but you're just experiencing fatique, if that's the case then... well, yeah, you should play other stuff that feels new and exciting for you instead of just replays.

I definitely recommend the 8-Bit Sonic titles, at least Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, since they remind me of Mario more... also, Sonic Pocket Adventure, it really feels like a Sonic 2 demake, but it has this save system, so losing all of your lives is less of a problem, it also feels way simpler than Genesis' titles. Also, don't forget to press down to roll on slopes, it speeds Sonic up and protects him too.

P.S. Avoid the Game Gear's Sonic 2, play the one on Master System instead, it's 10x more fun...

I hope you have a fun time if you get around to playing it, changing the version genuinely made this one go from one of my least favorite Sonic titles to one of my favorites by far, it becomes a lot more manageable when you can actually see things like in the Genesis titles... also, getting a 100% completion run here is a lot more fun, at least compared to the Genesis version, because the Special Stages in Sonic 2 are a pain, while in this one you just find the Chaos Emeralds in the levels by exploring, it's really fun, though some are placed in really cheap places to find without a guide or something... but if you don't get 100% Tails dies in the end, so do it. Anyways, cheers!

>I think that's the vocal minority anon, most people seem to like the Adventure games, especially SA1.
I think you're right, anon... it's just that, with Sonic specifically, there seems to be almost a rewriting of history that I don't see with any other IP. I recall when most agreed that up until Sonic '06 and Shadow, Sonic's video games were mostly good, then Heroes started getting more hate, which I guess is fair, and then the Adventure ones suddently began getting more hate aswell, the crowd that claimed "Sonic never worked in 3D" was always a thing, but not like today... and then we have the "Sonic was never good" crowd too. It feels like hating on Sonic is just the cool thing to do now, what makes you seem smart and really knowledgeable about video games, about how Adventure hasn't aged well and how 2D Sonic is fundamentally flawed and was all about marketing or something, it just feels off.
