Why is the PlayStation called the PSX today, when the N64 isn't called NUS or Ultra 64, and the Gamecube isn't called "the Dolphin"? The PlayStation had a code name of PS-X like a lot of other consoles did in development but this seems to be the only one people have a cult-like mentality for using after the console was given a real name. Oh and Sony released something actually called PSX later on so calling a PlayStation a PSX doesn't make any sense. pic related

sometimes I use psx and sometimes I use ps1. by the time I got a magazine subscription, ps2 had already come out, so I only saw psx a few times. to me, pic related is what I most associated with the name psx at the time.

It's pronounced Playstation. How it's written is by its abbreviation.
I, like everyone else who isn't autistic, switched to writing PS1 when the PS2 came out. The PS3, PS4, and PS5 have only given me more reasons to refer to the first PlayStation as the PS1.
If someone uses PSX to refer to the PS1 I assume they just came out of a cryo-tube a la Futurama.

There is no reason at all to still call it a PSX. Pic related is a PSX, officially released by Sony. PSX for the first Playstation is literally an obsolete term. It's the first in the Playstation line, so a reasonable person will just use PS1, or just Playstation.
