There was a TOTAL WAR among all races over the scraps of the burned Mana tree before the game takes place that resulted in everything getting fucked up.

Also the wisdoms that basically run the land are pretty suspicious. Pokhiel was involved in the war, others are completely lethargic and the wisdom of light is naive to the point of being amoral. The game looks cutesy but has all these weird stuff that's out of place sticking out like a sore thumb.
