Supposedly because they didn't have to worry about handheld backlite, but then you have the GBA version jacking up the brightness to saturated levels (which unfortunately stuck around it seems, even in something called a PIXEL REMASTER), so I'm cot convinced it's anything other than an OG GBA issue.
