I know this is kinda offtopic, but why the FUCK did everyone copy EQ instead of Ultima.

>just recently got into seriously collecting games
>first ever thrift store outing; finding gold left and right, good deals everywhere
>one month later
>Goodwill is marking up all their prices on video games ($4.99 for some fucking Game Gear sports title, $4.99 for NES golf game #1204, $4.99 for fucking 2600 carts, $3.99 and up for shitty PS1 titles and ancient PC software in the wrong cases)
>Craigslist ads getting bolder every day ("price is FIRM", "x goes for at least y on eBay!")
>local garage sales are operated by fucking cunts who are looking to make money, not trying to get rid of their shit (individually priced games, outrageous prices for systems, "well, they're worth at least x on eBay...")
>fucking scumbags on craigslist with their "$$$ PAYING CASH FOR YOUR OLD VIDEO GAMES $$$" ads who are just in it to flip the games for twice the money
>white trash moms on local Facebook rummage sale groups buying up collectible video game stuff for their misbehaving child who is most likely just going to destroy all of it

What the fuck is happening?

>tfw i still vividly remember opening up my brand new sealed chrono trigger that i got on my 8th b-day
>mom took the manual and added it to the rubber banded stack with all my other video game manuals
>the box was crushed up and thrown in the trash the same day

Same story with every other SNES game I owned; many of them would be really valuable today. Donkey Kong Country, Link to the Past, F-Zero, even Illusion of Gaia that had a mini-strategy guide/walkthrough in the manual and and giant map poster.

If I had taken better care of my games and kept the boxes and manuals all those years ago I'd have a really impressive collection. But I lost essentially every single game and console I ever owned as a kid, including handhelds, when my parents got divorced and moved.
