I remember signing up and then realizing I had to convince a mod to let me post on the site. The boards in general are pretty dead and entry method seems to be the reason why. You'd think a community based on user created content would be more welcoming.

SA1 did things a bit different. They made all the sonic levels first, and then the rest of the game is based off them.
The devs had to think "How do I make this sonic level fun for knuckles?"
You ended up with really good levels because everything was literally sonic levels.

SA2 made 3 types of levels from scratch so you weren't guaranteed to like everything. There's a lot more going on in the sonic levels though, and SA1 levels almost look like simple tech demos in comparison.

Personally I still prefer SA1 because the adventure fields. You could just dick around all day and weren't forced to play as the other characters.
