I didn't personally start doing any form of piracy until around 2006, but I did have pirated games before then.

>would spend hours and hours going through the different games at random and seeing what they contained
>didn't even know there were any Sonic games besides Sonic 1, 2 and 3D Blast (which my dad insisted was "the first 3D game") but consider myself something of a Sonic fan because I played 2 and 3D Blast as a really little kid with Sonic 2 being the first game I ever played
>suddenly it turns out there were fully 3D Sonic games and I had two of them
>play the fuck out of them and consider Sonic Adventure 2 my favorite game of all time for at least a year
>try Jet Set Radio thanks to this and over the years came to love it, didn't even get the English or PAL versions for years so just got really used to the Japanese version, currently consider Jet Set Radio my favorite of all time
I bought like two Dreamcast games ever and I still have most of the shit that was burned off for me, some of the discs died though because as a kid I didn't treat discs very well. Based dad.
