Maybe im just some weirdo but do any of you know what I am talking about when I try to explain games like this? Games that clearly make you feel like you are in a precisely designed world, chock full of different locations and enemies, that is meant to evoke wonder and adventure in a way that also lends itself to fun gameplay and mechanics?

Basically the opposite of an "immersive experience" or something realistic, but games where the devs are clearly self-aware that the user is playing a videogame and they design around that philosophy.

these type of games seem to only really come from Japan and tend to be retro. Obvious famous examples being the Zelda series, resident evil 1-3, modern examples being stuff like souls games etc.

Am I just fucking crazy? Can anybody help me articulate my favorite type of game design? Also game reccomendations would be appreciated.

Was this possibly the most important Atari 2600 game that wasn't a port?

>First open ended action adventure game
>One of the only Atari games to be more of what we think as a modern single player game and less "arcadey" for lack of a better term
>Would probably never have shit like Zelda, Wizardry, Ultima, or Elder Scrolls without it
>Contained the world's first 'easter egg.' A trend that would continue into the modern age of gaming.

Is Adventure retro game KINO?

Adventure is my earliest memory of gaming. But I'm not sure if it made me a gamer. I think it was something from the NES era that sparked it. Probably Kid Icarus, Kung-Fu, Super Mario Bros., or Zelda.

The 2600 is before my time, but Adventure is one of the few I remember liking.
