You're the same guy who keeps saying that anti-Sonic CD people are nintendrones or whatever, right? That never made sense to me, as I said, I'm more leaning toward the actual old Sonic fans.
Most of the times people shit on Sonic CD, it's always coming from people who clearly like Sonic, they just dislike CD. If it were Nintendo or Sony fans, they'd be more like "Sonic was never good" which is more like something they (or general zoomers who aren't familiar with classic Sonic) would say.
> it never crossed my mind to hate a game I've never played just because I couldn't afford the add-on myself at the time nor would my parents buy it anyways
Why not? This is the prime reason most people get hateboners for games: because they couldn't have them. Sure, Sega CD is still Sega-branded, so Sega fans should like it, those who are blind loyalists, but for most common folk who just like what they have, and hate what they don't have, brand loyalty isn't on the equation much.
But I think the reason there's a vocal hatred for CD goes even beyond just "my parents didn't buy me a Sega CD", it has more to do with the fact Sonic CD was hyped as FUCK back in the 90s. Kids nowadays would be unable to understand, but just knowing that Sonic CD had a CARTOON VIDEO in it in 1993, that alone made kids go crazy, but it was prohibitive because the Sega CD was so expensive, so it was more like a myth. Sonic CD became this exotic, holy grail Sonic game that only rich kids had. (I know there may have been some folk who got lucky and got a Sega CD too, but it was extremely uncommon).
So going back to why people hate Sonic CD, it's mostly a contrarian reaction when they finally play it 20 years later. "Huh... this is it? It's not as good as [insert favorite Sonic entry, usually Sonic 2 or 3&K], this game sucks, levels are too random and hunting for time machines isn't fun, fuck this hipster overrated game!".
t. A real Sonic CD fan who has argued a lot with anti-Sonic CD guys.

I had the PC version, but never could enjoy it too much. Maybe it was because I played it using the keyboard (I only had a joystick for the PC back then... as in an actual joystick, not a pad), but years later I tried it again on Gems Collection on PS2, and also found the controls to be a bit off. Turns out the Gems Collection version of Sonic CD is actually the PC port.
Then I finally played the original Sega CD version and I loved it, controls actually felt proper.
