This is why a good emulator always dots all its "i's" and crosses all its "t's", as it were; so that the game _cannot_ tell that it's not running on original hardware. See Earthbound.

If the ROM can tell it's no longer in the cartridge, that's an emulation bug, not an inherent limitation.

This expresses my sentiments rather well on the subject. Though I would not go so far as to say Corlette (I believe that is how you spell his name?) "made up" any lines, he still dishonored the game he claimed to love by not only leaving in outstanding issues that were highly noticeable, but doing so for dubious reasons and then failing to go back and correct said errors.
