All the time, and I still do. It was a very different time since the media was looked down upon, but now they have college courses and professions based around video games. Emulators are now mature instead of having weird timings or visual artifacts. So back then I'd go to every magazine section even in grocery stores, not just bookstores and libraries to have some approximation of enjoying the luxury of video games in tangental coverage whenever I can. Even now with the rising housing and utilities cost, I still use it as an alternative to cope for the inability to afford the games.

I had to imagine playing games, sometimes spend time at the kiosks, watch others on the arcade cabinets. It is a luxury hobby for the rich. I typically got games that were no longer wanted in the clearance bins or junk bins of the recycle shops.

Probably. I have the promo magazine from Victor for their upcoming releases on the MegaCD, Square used to mail newsletters out for their games called Ogopogo Examiner, same with the Capcom CrazeClub, various magazines that were of smaller publications, and I recently have been enjoying a few magazines from UK which is like another dimension where Sega games were liked and those magazines are interesting to me. As for PCE related ones, I think the ones I have of PC-Engine Fan has already been scanned, but I do have only 3 issues of the US Turbo Force and only 1 issue of Turbo Play.

Pretty accurate on rent, but jokes on you my work lets me take home 1 small order to eat if I work that day.

Not true, it is just an illusion with all the pics. That is the same Turbo Everdrive which I saved up for one Black Friday. I just happen to keep a lot of the old stuff I had.

No, I mostly just read and reread about all the amazing games I wanted, knowing I could never afford them.

I read them because it was a time before solid emulation and flashcarts. There was no way I can afford the games, so imagination is all there was. I guess they were the influencers of their day just as youtube and twitch are now. As for the games legacies, I guess it was part of my memories of the games, but even then I found to disagree with some reviewers.

When I was younger, I thought my opinion lined up most closely with Sushi-X's. However, these days they are closer to Ed's.

I am surprised so many on this thread likes the HuCards so much, since most of my memories were with the CD-ROM games. They left a better impression on me in their day.

I can't even find those for $30, but I do see one for $50 which I am considering now but I probably won't until I re-recap the NEC systems I do have. I don't want to chance those broken for parts not working, because that will add to my already growing repair bill for PC-Engine hardware, if I can even find someone capable and willing to do the repair work.

That is really cool, but $280USD! Would love to use that but wages here just have not kept up.

Yeah, adding the shipping and gratuity/commission for Japanon would make the cost a bit high for my blood. I hope you also have some games or an Everdrive to enjoy non-shitty games on a Coregrafx because there is a lot to like for the system.

They are worth that and more only to me. I like the games and they hold a high sentimental value especially with the fond memories, but one day I may have to part with the games I like playing due to all the financial pressures. When that day comes, they won't even fetch even close to that amount. Most around me can't even read Japanese, so the $1-2 a game at best Gamestop or local pawn shop would give would only be able to sustain me for maybe a couple weeks. While they are just material goods, they have been very good to me.

I guess the shaking that occurred during shipping may have affected the quality of the soldering job. The RGB is okay, but I am getting a stutter every now and then, so I assume all the issues were from shipping it back & forth despite the padding added.

Fear not, I also have a Super CD-ROM2 which could hook up to a standard PC-Engine or CoreGrafx. However, I have to save up in order to get one of those now. So fortunately the CD-ROM games can still be enjoyed (but in awful RF, unless I save some more to get another RGB mod).

Being poor means having to make do with what I have. I even enjoy reading on paper too. Learned about some really good HuCards that way. Those days are long gone now, but it's better now with the information highway with paper being obsolete.
