No one has posted the hardest game ever yet...

The original X-com was a very hard game, well, there was this Glitch that was unknown to the developers and gamers, where the gamers would choose the hard difficulty but it would still play with the easy one .

So the developers were getting feedback that the game was too easy even in the hardest difficulty. which of course is not true but the glitch would make it appear so.

So what happened was, on their sequel, they basically made the hardest difficulty in the first game the "easy" mode for the new game, and you can imagine how the hard mode must be.

People could barely get past the first level.

So I've been playing a lot of the old XCOM recently, and beat UFO defense (or UFO enemy unknown, whatever), which I was pretty proud of. I heard there was an open XCOM thing for TFTD so I tried it out. Suffice to say, I got my ass handed to me. Any protips from experienced Commanders would be appreciated.

Thread for those epic retro game find stories

I found a mint condition big box copy of pictured at a thrift store, it had all the paperwork and everything even the receipt! Also picked up a big box copy of Hexen 2 and one other game I don't remember right now, was a good day.

While TFTD is often derided for being reskin of UFO, it is my personal favorite for the atmosphere and the ability to open doors without going in (that alone made me like TFTD more than UFO, even with the bullshit, but thankfully fixable, bugs).

Still, sometimes I wish that TFTD was more than a reskin (something which may become a reality when the guys behind OpenXcom may start working on OpenTFTD sometime in the future) with a few ideas:

-More "realistic" underwater combat: Limited swimming in non-ultimate armor; no throwing grenades replaced by grenade launchers.
-Taking ideas from the Good-but-otherwise-not-that-great NuXcom: Genetic and Cybernetic enhancements similar to Shadowrun's system, fluffwise the first babysteps to the all the stuff that is present in Apocalypse.
-More variety in weapon types, plus an Alien-exclusive weapon category superior to the Sonic weaponry that your Soldiers cannot use, to prevent getting free ammo.

So what are your thoughts on making TFTD more that a reskin, and by proxy how would you have made Apocalypse decent/better and Interceptor not horrible?

Otherwise, Old!X-COM general.

Terror from the Deep

I gave up after failing some ridiculously huge multi-part mission because an alien was stuck inside a wall.

But I completed the original XCOM several times, and TFTD is just a shitty official hack with more bugs and less fun, so I don't think I'll waste my time on it again.
