I'll agree that the 1st boss was BS, especially due to them making it harder despite it already being 10x harder than on Master System thanks to the Game Gear's resolution... anyways, once you get past it and manage to do it consistently, it's still quite difficult, but a fun title with good design in most areas, good controls, looks and sound, it's not superb, but not bad at all, that's too harsh...

If you play the Master System version though, its there where thing become superb, they really did seem to have made the levels with a proper TV's resolution in mind and it shows, it's so much fun.

If you watch a blind playthrough of any arcade title, or arcade port, from the 80's and 90's, the chances are that whoever's playing willl lose all of their lives, and be forced to restart, very fast, and this will happen over and over for quite some time, now tell me... is that fun? Well, it isn't if you only like winning, which seems to be the case with a lot of you people, but it's not about that.

All video games, good ones at least, make the player struggle and learn over time to get better and better at it, so that our wins can actually be rewarding, that's what arcades were all about.

If you think running into enemies and getting hit sometimes, you know... failing and losing, isn't a crucial part of any video game, then I don't know what to say, you're not arguing in good faith.

It's funny, if Sonic was just a matter of holding right, and there are times it is more like that, it's panned for playing itself, but it's also panned for asking the player to improve and learn aswell. If you don't like Sonic and/or arcade styled video games in general, just say so, no need to sound all "intelectual" and argue about how it's flawed because you suck at it and don't want to learn.

I agree, it's the part that most people remember being filtered by, I myself never got past it when I was younger, playing it on the Gems Collection, which only had the Game Gear versions of all the 8-Bit installments, I can finish the Game Gear one nowadays just fine, but when you're younger it's ridiculous, and it also makes no sense how when you play the Master System version, with a much better resolution, the bombs all bounce low, so it behaves like a 1st boss should, but on Game Gear where you already have the resolution making it more difficult, the bombs bounce way higher too and it becomes 10x more difficult... it's not just in the 1st boss either, a bunch of levels become way more difficult due to the Game Gear resolution, especially Green Hills and Scrambled Egg... it's still a fantastic time for me though, but I'm at a point where I've mastered the whole thing too.

Indeed, it's crazy how the Master System version, with tons of space and visibility, has low bounces always, while this one had them varied, it feels as if it should've been the complete opposite... I will never forgive whoever did this, as I grew up with the Game Gear version and never got past that, I went for the Master System one a few years back and was shocked at how much I liked it... why did SEGA always go for the Game Gear stuff in every compilation, but never Master System?

I've always defended Sonic 3D Blast, even considering one of my favorites as a kid when I played it on Sonic Mega Collection Plus for PS2, and that compilation gave me access to pretty much everything that Sonic was in before Sonic Adventure, with a few notable exceptions. I don't know what it is about it that captivated me, but the fact that it was 3D, even though it was 16-Bit, was incredible... yes, I know it's isometric, but I can move and platform on 3 axis, while usually there would only be 2, so it felt 3D when playing at least. I agree that controls aren't ideal, though playing with an analog stick helps, and there isn't much platforming because of said controls, you don't go as fast as earlier installments and there's a need to collect flickies, but it's still fun to me, a stellar OST, impressive graphics and pseudo 3D, excellent level design... it's the closest Sonic had to a collectathon, before Sonic Frontiers at least, and I love it.

Yup! It's me. I'm glad you've managed to pull it off. I too loved how much simpler it was to 100% Sonic 3 due to its saving system, at times I wish Sonic 2 would have the same system, and a way to choose if you activate Super Sonic or not, then it'd be perfect, I was worried Sonic 2 would be a pain for you to 100% as I only did it once and never even considered trying again because of how cumbersome it was. Well, you just got 100% in every installment from Sonic's original trilogy, so CD should be straight forward, I especially love the exploration aspect there, going into the past to look for the generators, though you can go for the time stones if you prefer, it's nice how it gives you options.
