I would even go as far as suggesting that the earliest (arcade) games quite naturally leaned more towards 3D gaming because of the very nature of the vector displays (oppose to raster) they used.

And thus the earliest proto 3D games usually were vector graphic games like the Atari ones

Or the wire frame Star Wars Arcade games. After those wire frame games driven by the vector displays, a game with filled vectors like "I, Robot" was quite an achivment.
