Shantae runs correctly in the Gambatte but without the ability to have the correct aspect ratio, be it in double strike(240p etc), interlaced, or progressive.
Mednafen has the correct aspect ratio but plays incredibly slowly.
This fork of VBA will do both: http://gbatemp.net/threads/new-vba-gx-fork-2-3-0.371284/
Speed on GBA games is at least as good as the RA core. Only thing speedy I've tried out is Sonic Advance 3 and that had slowdown but was reasonably playable.

Pic related. SNES shape and shoulder buttons, GC face buttons, great d-pad. Quite pricey though; I spent $80 for it at the end of 2013, and they seem to be going for $100 or so now.

Classic Controllers are alright, but one of the two (pro) that I have seems to have a finicky d-pad that I'm not a fan of in the first place. The Hori Digital Pad is the same size and shape as the SNES; Comparing it to the d-pad of my SNES controller, the Hori's seems a slightly firmer but that could just be from the pad of the SNES's being more worn. Buttons feel same as any first party GC controller.
