I haven't seen Mary Sue used incorrectly by anyone actually making serious criticism. Usually people claiming Mary Sue just means "character I don't like" fails to understand the substance of the complaint, and probably also finds the criticism threatening and so desperately tries to derail into a semantic argument by over-simplifying the idea (for example, stupidly asserting that it HAS to be SPECIFICALLY an author self-insert.)

On the other hand, it's rare for Mary Sue to be particularly relevant as a criticism in a videogame. Videogames are usually about the player overcoming obstacles with traditional character development sometimes included as a bonus. The literary concept of a Mary Sue rarely applies, since so many games are about self-inserting as the main character anyway.

Finally, if you let the dumbest subliterate critics on 4chan define your terms for you, that's your own fucking fault.

>Is there a game from your childhood that you could never beat?
Most of them. I'm a scrub (always will be) and was only able to rent games or play them at a friends. Or sometimes I just got bored of them (DQ III on GBC).
As I got a little older (teens) I was able to start actually finishing games, mostly on GameCube
Don't think I'll ever beat a Classicvania or a NES Mario game, or even any NES game other than LoZ though.
