I will agree that the game had its immersive moments. But thats good and bad in my opinion. Going into a dungeon felt dangerous because, if you died, you could possibly lose all your shit.

Trains of mobs could be unwittingly pulled on you, shit could go south at a moments notice. Traveling in a place you were unfamiliar with felt scary.

But I'd also argue that was part of what sucked about it too. It made the game something of a chore and a source of stress. And exploring a dungeon wasn't like some DnD adventure. It was finding a corner in some room and camping spawns for hours to grind XP and get loot.

Oh those many hours I spent as a cleric staring at my god damn spellbook so I'd have enough mana to keep Dingleshit the Warrior alive.

Depends on the game. I mostly think of Jrpgs like Final Fantasy and Legend of Dragoon where they were mostly annoying. They were annoying as shit in the BG franchise as well.
