I was surprised to hear Driving Off the Map as soon as that playlist started. Been over a decade since I read that and it was an amazing analysis of Metal Gear Solid 2 back then. That being said, and I do appreciate his run a lot because it's raw in planning and execution (not tempered with the usual strats you see in speedrunning - you can see he developed his own strats through trial & error), it's kind of a shame he wastes almost two/thirds of the playthrough rambling his thoughts about Metal Gear Solid 2 (even if they are somewhat interesting despite sounding too pretentious at times) instead of addressing it purely on a technical gameplay level, which I think is what people are looking for when watching someone Big Boss rank Metal Gear Solid 2. He could learn a thing or two from Michael McEnroe.

>Main reason 3 isn't a continuation might also be because of that and not Iraq War.
I don't think it had anything to do with that. Kojima choose MGS3's setting as a way of passing on the series to a new generation of developers. He wanted to show them the culture that inspired him as a child and molded him into a videogame developer. That's what SCENE was about and the reason why ultimately it sacrificed some of the series mythos and lore to retroactively portray what message Kojima wanted (it would have made more sense to show a younger Big Boss somewhere in 50s but this was something that Kojima was unfamiliar with). I think when you look at it from that angle, Metal Gear Solid 3 makes much more sense and is ultimately justifiable because it's Kojima parting with the series, sharing his "personal diary" with the younger team who helped him to develop the series up until that point.
