Welp, guess it's that time of the year again.

Won't Goemon 2, 3 and 4 on the SNES ever get translated?

OP, 8 and 16 bit is the golden age of platformers, you shouldn't have any problem finding good ones.
Just look for developers, Konami generally did great platformers as the one you posted, there's also Tiny Toon Adventures on the NES, Tiny Toon Buster Busts Loose on SNES, then original IPs like Sparskster/Rocket Knight Adventure, the Animaniacs games (both SNES and Genesis are worth playing and different from each other), Konami Wai Wai World, Goemon series (a personal favorite), and many others.

Capcom also has tons of great classic platformers. Chip & Dale, Ducktales, Mickey's Magical Adventure games, Aladdin, and there's tons of great Capcom games that were also left in Japan but now you can play thanks to emulation, like Hanamaru.
Really, tons of Capcom platformers, I just named the most popular/licensed ones.

Adventure Island series is another staple of the platforming genre that doesn't get nearly enough recognition nowadays. Adventure Island 1 (or "Wonder Boy" in arcades as it was originally released) is great, but the sequels are even better, Adventure Island II, III, IV on NES/Famicom are all gold, also the Game Boy ones, the SNES ones and the PC Engine one.

Yeah, Goemon was only on Nintendo and Sony systems. The PS1 2D titles are good (kinda on par with the SFC games), the 3D one, not so much.

>Also, noticed nobody's said anything about Legend of the Mystical Ninja. I've only ever played it through Virtual Console, but the co-op is really amazing.

It's a really amazing game, Goemon 2 and 4 on SFC are also great and have co-op. (Goemon 3 is more like a Zelda game, so it's harder to play without knowing japanese)

Great Adventure is basically an expanded take on the SFC platformers. It's above average for sure, and possibly one of the best in the series.

Yeah, I'd also say Goemon.

Only Goemon 3 is Zelda-like, 1, 2 and 4 are mostly side-scrollers with the occassionaly town which plays a bit like Zelda, but the core gameplay is side-scrolling.

Definitely reccommended.
