The earlier cartridges I had in the launch year had the slit matching the bottom one on the image. That was for the mechanism when the power switch is slid up to power on, mechanically a plastic holder in the inverse shape slides into that slit to lock the cartridge from being pulled out. Instead of having a similar mechanism which slides the power switch back down (releasing the lock) when eject was pushed, the launch SNES I has the eject button on a whole separate lever mechanism, where the fulcrum is closer to the cartridge than the eject button, so a lot of force can easily be applied if someone were to attempt to eject the cartridge while the power was in the "on" position. I think the top cartridge shell would guide the power locking mechanism back if someone was to press the eject button while it was in the ON position. I never attempted to eject any cartridge while the system was powered on because it was procedure to first shut off power prior to removing a game pak, but we can try to simulate the situation with the console not plugged in. Over time, Nintendo refines their knowledge and efficiencies in producing consoles/controllers (like original controllers had metal bars as pivot points for L+R buttons then later to molding them into the button plastic themselves, or logos no longer needing to be laser imprinted onto the plastic to just having them part of the plastic mold). The Sega Mega Drive also initially has a mechanical cartridge locking system tied to the power switch siding into one side, but that eventually got removed too.

It is difficult to decide.

I remember seeing these renders of the system was wanting the system so badly then. Nintendo and 16-bit meant some real hype.

I hear it isn't just the color, but the plastic gets more brittle too. The bromine within the plastic just reacts to air and sunlight to cause it. In the recycle shops, they did use to price the more severely yellowed consoles lower than ones which does not have as much yellowing, that was standard fare. Earlier releases didn't have the right mixture so they were prone to change color. I didn't know better back then, and my Nintendo systems got lots of air and sunlight in where they were situated in the home, so until I can get the materials and means to fix it up, I just have to live with my yellowed systems.

It was sunlight and air which caused my original systems to get yellow in the first place. Kind of amazing that it is just sunlight to reverse it. I remember it was said to use a high concentration hydrogen peroxide mix and UV lights to de-yellow the plastic. I thought the chemicals were a large part in undoing the bromine reaction.

I mistook NT mini and Super NT. Yeah, I really do want a NT mini for all the additional cores as mentioned. However, I would still want the analog out options and the Famicom expansion port. While a nice metal case would be luxurious, I agree that is the main price increase and the easiest for me to sacrifice as it is probably the what limits me from actually having the funds for the NT mini. That is why I am desperately hoping for the 8-bit cores to be released for the Super NT.

It may have settled down, as I see a couple at $300 available right now, which I think covers the seller for the initial shipping and eBay fees. I remember the Super NT cost me $40USD to ship to my location in the USA. Still, it is surprising some sold for over $1000, but I doubt I can get that and I fear with my luck some asshole buyer would just demand a refund. I'd really like to as it could help with me getting something I'd want, but I just heard/read the stories from people selling on eBay here on /vr/.

I don't. Therefore, my buyer's remorse. I thought to treat myself, I'd build a J-Win98 machine with half of my tax return and save the rest, but now I remember I no longer have anything left when the Super NT arrived. For the same price after shipping it is almost the price of a Roland MT32 and an AV Famicom that I so desired, or a NES and an AV Famicom that I desire. Worse part is that I don't have any HDMI TVs so I do not know what I was thinking when I preordered, maybe in hopes for the 8-bit cores to be released so that it covers the NES and AV famicom cost.

Thanks. It is difficult as all my friends are enjoying the new stuff like Overwatch on Xbox One, and I get left behind just because saving is difficult when there's not much left to save. Even after getting a new console, I have to consider the expense of getting games for them too. For instance, I can save for a few years, and maybe afford that Xbox One X but not have anything left for games/subscription/game pass, or utilize the 50+ games I already have for the NES (or 20 Famicom) or try to save for a year to get a NES or AV Famicom. In that span of time, something will come up where I will have to dip into that well and reset the savings back to 0 and start over. It doesn't help that I am not too bright and subject to poor decisions.

I judged poorly, when I got my Christmas bonus from my bosses and blew that and the little I had saved on the SNES classic just because there was a stack of them at Best Buy. I cannot get the $88 back, and I've yet to use it, so in retrospect if I had saved for 2 more months I may have had enough for a NES.
