What is actually wrong with the N64's library? It's a very western-oriented console with a great selection of games from British, German, and American developers, plus a bunch of quirky Japanese games that were generally inferior to their non-Japanese counterparts because Japanese programmers weren't very good and the N64 required god-tier programming skills. Pretty much every genre is covered. The N64 was a hotbed of innovative design and experimentation. Every major western publisher released games for it.

Sometimes I get the feeling the people who complain about the N64 library are Japanese game fans who can't be bothered learning Japanese to play the Japanese games nobody cared about enough to localize.

Best platform to play/emulate this game on? I was watching gameplay of this game and I want to try it out.

The Devs pretty much went 'Well, if collecting things with TWO characters is fun (BK), then how much fun will collecting things with FIVE characters be?'

Completely forgetting that BK's two characters were a humour thing, they played as one, and that five characters collecting things individually are just doing the same shit five times over.

Had DK 64 been closer to the DKC series' design - two characters combining their skillsets to get shit done, which was precisely the thing Rare did in BK -, it'd have been far less tedious and padded. It'd still have been a BK clone with monkeys (And bossfights), mind you.

The game coming closest to the DKC series' gameplay everyone wanted for DK 64 was pic related. Which pretty much copied the DKC 2 formula, come to think of it - pirates, a character capable of floating, awesome bossfights, memorable volano- swamp- and bramble bush levels?

Shit. Rayman 2 is DKC 2 in 3D.

One of the few times my parents got me a game without asking me which ones I was interested in turned out to be totally awesome.

Somehow my dad had found the only knowledgeable Wal-Mart employee to ever live, it was between this and RE2 apparently.
