Also, Mobile Light Force 2 is somehow not Gunbird 2. I don’t understand. I feel like someone should have interviewed the staff, got into their heads and figured out what happened.

Like the eternal mystery of who that chubby balding man on the cover of Columns 3 is, how was he chosen? Who was the manager at the time that said “Looks good! Send it to the printer.”?

I think there was a disconnect between what western offices of Japanese companies WANTED to sell, and the products they actually had been given. Plus, I’m sure there’s a desire to justify their jobs and budget. If SEGA’s NA team kept saying that the Japanese cover was fine, it probably wouldn’t be long before the home office asked why there are so many employees in that department? Do they really need that much staff, maybe they don’t need a design department at all?

That’s how you turn a video game about Ninjas with white wolves into an alleyway vigilante attacking a rapist with a baseball bat.

Also: Retrogame mystery! Why is a chunky balding man on the cover of Columns?
