/vr/ - Retro Games

My mom used to put a small star on the back corner of my games to make sure i returned home with the right one. When I was 15 I was going through my old things and I found all my games and saw that little star. When she did it I was so angry at her for ruining my perfect game. When I was 15 I was indifferent. I just thought the games were pretty neat. When I turned 21 and moved across the country my mother went through our old things, and gave away a lot of my stuff, except for my Super Mario World. She mailed it to me with a loving note about how she couldn't bring herself to give this game away and wanted me to have it. I called my mother and cried harder than I ever had before. I thanked her for drawing the little stars. I thanked and apologized and cried. I hope who ever had the rest of my collection appreciates those stars, appreciates what my mother did for me to ensure my individuality, to ensure that my games remained mine.

It's funny how mom's can see the important things even before they're important.

Hey /vr/. Anyone know any retro game stores close to central London? I don't want to go too far to actually find retro games. Even if there's no stores in central london,do you know any places that HAVE retro games?

How the fuck am I supposed to shoot fire in this game? I've been playing it for 20 years and I still can't figure out this stupidly implemented game mechanic.

Some guides that I have looked up have told me to press the d-pad in the reverse direction or tap it that way, or press up and down in succession in combination with the b button. Some guides have told me to press backwards and up in succession. Each guide tells me a different button combo to activate the shooting fire mode but none of them work.

This is a fucking Mario game, so it can't be that complex. How can I control Mario's shooting fire?

So what's the best SMW romhack? I've been wanting to play one really badly, but I want to play something good.

The dueling slide guitar/banjo just GET me every time I listen to this. The accordion's not bad either.

Game has too many problems with pacing and level flow/momentum to even come close to being considered a Top 5 platformer. I'm amazed that SMW vs SMB3 is even a question.

In general I feel like so many Super Nintendo games get more praise than they deserve. Chrono Trigger is a great RPG, but it's not much more than that. Nothing was particularly groundbreaking or ahead of it's time except maybe the setting. A Link to the Past is a game that runs almost entirely off of Nostalgia fuel Like most Zelda Games and outside of that it's pretty much just another good Zelda game.

I feel the same way about some Genesis Games. Streets of Rage and Shining Force get WAY too much praise for what it is they actually are.
