Unfortunately thats the market these days it seems. Even though FE was literally saved by its dating sim elements, at least even then the girls you don't pick can still develop/have relationships with others outside of the self insert protag. I surprisingly found Excella in Shining Resonance a bit interesting, but the fact that she's quite literally locked out from interacting with anyone who isn't the self insert protag is absolutely irritating. That is to say though, I agree it's a trend that I also wish would stop. Back when they localized Shining Resonance they mentioned wanting to appear to western fans more which made me curious as to if they were going to try and go back to the series roots in some way or form, but it was extremely vague and I'm a hopeless full who still clings on to even the tiniest bit of hope that maybe one day the series I love won't be a ghost of it's former self anymore.

Bowie does speak a handful of times, but I don't recall him ever saying to Elis outside of something like "oof" and that wasn't even directed at her, it was in response to him falling after trying to save her or something. I think that was the only time Elis even said something about him as well, which also wasn't directly to him. Bowie never shows any sort of attraction to Sarah either honestly but because the player is super familiar with her along with her being an easy unit to keep throughout your whole playthrough (not to mention that Sarah kickstarted your adventure by pushing you to go to the castle with her), its understandable why Bowie and Elis just doesn't make any sense in the end to many who played.

And also about Wisdom, they were side characters yes. Working designs screwed up the NA translation by retranslating their names and making it seem like they were both romantically involved but the original JP and more accurately translated EU games made clear that it was very one sided on Kazin's side.
