And I'll post two more shots of the Game Gear just because I think this might be my favorite system mod I've done. It's definitely not something I'd recommend for beginners but it was well worth the effort.

I have modded a lot of systems but out of all of them I think the modded Game Gear is the one I am most proud of. The AGS screen mod on my Gameboy Advance was similarly dramatic in its effectiveness (not to mention much easier and cheaper to do), but I had seen an AGS 101 Gameboy before so I knew what to expect.

With the modded Game Gear it let me see the platform in a way I never had before outside of emulation. The difficulty also taught me a lot of valuable skills that have served me well. People talk about the difficulty of installing an NES RGB mod but honestly, it was easier than doing the Game Gear mod and I did the Game Gear mod first.

I have McWill's game gear screen mod and it's absolutely lovely. So much so that I am thinking about getting a Lynx 2 and modding it with the corresponding kit. Still need to add the VGA out port to it, though.

Yeah, I do the modding / repairs myself and I sell them on eBay. At some point I'd like to see what I could trade one for at a swap-meet too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I also want to try selling a McWill screen GG although there's considerably more overhead there. Just the kit costs $90 and there's a lot more labor involved than an LED mod. I've done one for myself already, but I think I'd have to charge about $300 if I was going to sell one. $250 would be rock-bottom but that wouldn't leave me a very good profit margin for the amount of time and work that goes into it.

Pic related is my personal GG with a McWill screen.

Check it out, guys! Over the 4th of July weekend I installed a McWill screen in my blue Game Gear, and put a brand new real glass lens over it.

I'm very impressed with the results I've gotten. The colors and contrast are far greater than anything the original screen was capable of. It looks emulation sharp. If the emulation look isn't quite to your liking though, the simulated scan lines mode looks amazing. My only real criticism of it is that I wish the thing had a dip switch so I could set scan lines as the default mode, but even so I really like it.

I don't have a Master Gear adapter or any Master System games to test it with, but I suppose it's time I invested in some or get an Everdrive because I want to see how the higher res graphics look and play on this.
