SNES RS1 is kind of clunky and with a lot of half assed design decisions so if you feel that's too weird for you feel free to skip it and play Minstrel Song.

You don't really need an action to be finalized in order to count, as long as the selection is over the game considers it part of the battle history, so even if a character doesn't act they might still get stats up at the end of the battle.

As long as you don't want to fight 10FS Saruin and want to grind a bit three other good characters it's doable I guess.

Yeah, I agree.
I also really like the little story of the Demonbrand when playing as Grey, Hawke and his rivalry with Butcher(with that fucking amazing pirate theme blasting in the backround), or Sif generally being based and trashtalking and humiliating every baddie in the game.

But then again, I really like SaGa's writing in general because while it can be very dramatic is still very down to earth, concise and not melodramatic, SaGa Frontier 2 is a perfect example of that.
