Just finished this and don't get the hype. It seems to "check all the boxes" but is not actually fun to play. Also, the final boss is retarded unbalanced unfun bullshit that is completely out of place.

Donkey Kong 94 was one of my favorite games as a kid, I want to rebuy it off eBay, but I bought Zelda of eBay and the battery was dead and couldn't keep save files. It's there any sure way of knowing it the battery will be dead or not. I still owe gb games from my childhood that can still save.

I love this game because it's all about GAME PLAY. A lot of games try to wow you with graphics, back in the day but especially extremely today. There are impressive looking game boy games but the graphics in this game are so simple, it's 100% game play. That's the way it should be, hence the name GAME.

In the interest of keeping this thread retri I actually think original gameboy has the most interesting library of all the nintendo handhelds. GBA has all the snes ports. But they arent original games

Some anon recommended it as great platformer definitely to check out. At this point I was sure it was Warioland : Super Mario Land 3 being a pinnacle.
Donkey Kong has nearly everything which good platformed must have.

- carrying over the key, mario can lose the grasp if falls
- "za warudo" blocks
- good boss battles
- fuckton of levers with different themes
- new features are presented incrementally with appropriate tutorials

The only flaws:
- lack of lever editor
- backflips giving more height than should have, some levels are easily beatable because of it

I've played on PC port for the first time 3-4 years ago. I had no idea about MGS series beforehand.

In the 1/3 of game I've realized that this game is nothing, but pastiche of action movies. And suddenly I genuinely started to enjoy the game. I've lost my shit whenever Liquid started screaming "BROOTHEERRRR" or when eponymous mech started screaming like dinosaur.

Well its not the most fun (thats SM3) but its really superb and it debuts a lot of Marios advance moves.

Motherfucking Donkey Kong '94. Pic related so you don't mistake it for Donkey Kong Land or Country. Excellent game, one of the best little puzzle games out there for the Gameboy, even though it is technically a puzzle-platformer. Many levels only take up a single screen, but each level is very well designed and filled with fantastic content, great music, and a charming atmosphere. Pretty big game too, around nine worlds, so you'll be entertained for a while. Biggest overlooked gem in Nintendo's GB library imo.

Games like Link's Awakening as must haves if you enjoy adventure games with puzzle aspects, and Six Golden Coins is one of the best platformers on the system. Original Pokemon games are great too, and Kirby's Dream Land is another classic to check out. If you elaborate on your tastes more recommendations could be narrowed down.
